Little things, like clean water piped into the house, heated, and drained away after use. Central heating and air conditioning. Machinery powered by internal-combustion, external-combustion, and electric power rather than by manpower, horsepower, ox-power, and such. Medical care that for all its faults keeps people alive for generally more than the traditional three score and 10 years."
